The Main Factors Why Your Throat is Irritated While Vaping

A sore throat can be quite annoying for a passionate vaper. Throat irritation is one of the reasons why people switch to e-cigarettes and vaporizers, so it is understandable why it is a nag when it happens while vaping. The main question is why throat irritation occurs when vapor does not contain as nearly toxic ingredients as tobacco smoke?

Smoker’s flu

One of the factors that can cause a sore throat is smoker’s flu. If you used to smoke conventional cigarettes, you might be going to withdrawal period characterized by a headache, sore throat, insomnia, stomach pain, and nausea. Technically this has nothing to do with vaping, but it might confuse a vaping beginner.

Nicotine level

Another factor that can induce a sore throat is the nicotine level in your vape juice. If you smoke cigarettes with lower nicotine level, make sure your vape juice does not contain too much nicotine. Otherwise, vaping e-juice with high nicotine level will give you a sore throat.

Ingredients of vape juice

Two of the main ingredients of the vape juice are PG (propylene glycol) and VG (vegetable glycol). Both substances are colorless, odorless, and mildly sweet. However, another important trait of PG and VG is the ability to attract moisture. This can make your throat and mouth dry and cause irritation. Also, high level of propylene glycol in your vape juice can cause strong throat hit, and it can also cause throat ache.

Vaping style

If you are a vaping beginner, make sure to take slow draws and hold the vapor in your mouth for a bit. If you continue to draw vapor at the same intensity as the tobacco smoke, you might end up with a sore throat.

The frequency of vaping

Another potential cause of throat irritation might be how often you vape. Frequent vaping might dry your throat out. If that is the case, the only solution is to take longer breaks between vaping.

How to Avoid a Sore Throat

  • The most important thing if you are a passionate vaper is to stay hydrated, because the dry throat is one of the main causes of irritation.
  • Another strategy on how to avoid a sore throat is to choose the right nicotine level for your vape juice.
  • Make sure that the propylene glycol and vegetable glycol ratio in your vape juice is well balanced. The best ratio is 70/30 PG to VG. It will give you solid hit with an intact flavor.
  • As already said, if you vape too often make sure to take an occasional break to avoid a sore throat, and modify your vaping style.
