Does Vaping Prevent Weight Gain?

Often times when people are trying to quit smoking cigarettes, they will notice some negative side effects that come with it. One of these things is weight gain. Cigarettes contain nicotine, which is known to suppress appetite and curb cravings, so people don’t eat a lot while they’re smoking. Not only that, when people quit smoking they go through withdrawal symptoms, so people will often eat more to help deal with the stress. The issue with this is that people who are trying to quit often will do it for health reasons; but obesity has similar health effects to smoking, so finding a way to prevent this weight gain is imperative. Some have even gone so far as to ask, “Does vaping prevent weight gain while quitting cigarettes?”


Vaping is becoming more and more popular in our culture, which means that more and more people are using it. This has made the evidence that vaping may be a viable solution and more easily accessible method of quitting smoking. We have often seen that people who use vape to help them quit smoking are often much more successful than people who don’t. People have also talked about how painless it was to quit because vaping allowed them to slowly ween off the nicotine rather than cutting it all out at once. There have also been some studies conducted that have shown a significant difference in weight gain when comparing people who vape versus people who don’t after quitting. These studies also showed that people who vaped at lower nicotine strength didn’t gain more weight than people at higher nicotine strength, it was fairly even for everyone who vaped.


With all that being said, however, there still hasn’t been enough research done about the subject to be certain whether or not vaping prevents weight gain after you quit smoking. While the initial studies are looking very promising, it is hard to make an accurate judgment based on the available information. There are still many other factors that need to be taken into account when trying to figure out whether or not this is an effective method. There are things like the difference between genders, how long someone has been smoking, what someone’s normal eating habits consist of, and so many other factors that could affect the success of this.


Although vaping may not have a lot of research backing it up, the initial success of it seems to be a good reason to at least look into trying it out as a method for preventing weight gain. There are so many health benefits to quitting smoking, so why not vape to help you get there faster? If vaping doesn’t work for you, or you decide you don’t like it, then you can stop and seek out other methods. If it does work for you, then you are feeling good about your weight and the fact that you were able to quit smoking. Either way, there is no harm in trying something new to help you quit something, which is harmful to you.
