Pros and Cons of Vaping: Should I Or Should I Not Start Vaping?
Given the fact that vaping industry is relatively new, we can easily understand why there are only a handful of studies regarding the subject. The majority of data we can find online is based on users’ experience. If you consider starting vaping, you will probably have some difficulties with finding a credible source of information online.
We tried to compile a list of pros and cons of vaping based on both sources – scientific facts (known and proven so far) and users’ experience.
Bad smell reduction
Buying vaping equipment can be a pricey investment at start. However, it is a much cheaper investment (on so many levels!) in the long run than “investing” in regular cigarettes.
Another pro on the list is the possibility of customization. When purchasing a vaping device, you can choose the vape juice with the amount of nicotine and the flavor according to your preference, plus you can use your vaping device as a fashion statement.
Potential health benefits
As previously said, e-cigarettes and vaporizers do not burn the vape juice which many people find a safer option than smoking. Cigarette smoke contains almost 400 toxic chemicals. On the other hand, when it comes to e-cigs, that number is drastically reduced.
It can help you reduce smoking
It has been noticed that vaping can help smokers reduce the number of cigarettes smoked during a day. However, despite these results, the FDA still hasn’t approved e-cigarettes as a smoking reduction/cessation aid.
Far less second-hand smoke side effects
We are all aware of many negative effects second-hand smoke has on people’s health. Even if you are not a smoker, secondhand smoke can damage your throat and lung because of many toxic chemicals contained in tobacco smoke.
Possible allergic reaction
There were a few reported cases of allergic reactions to propylene glycol, which is one of the main ingredients of vape juice. Despite that, you probably won’t be forced to quit. The alternative to propylene glycol is vegetable glycol that can be used as a base for e-cig liquid.
According to the U. S. Fire Administration, there were 25 reported cases of e- cig explosions due to battery malfunctions and improper charging between 2009 and 2014. In order to avoid these mishaps, make sure to follow all the guidelines and use the original battery charger.
Although, vapor contains far less toxic ingredients that cigarette smoke, we must not forget that nicotine is still addictive and harmful.
When it comes to negative effects of vaping on one’s health, according to some users, e-cigarette use may cause dry mouth, sore throat, and dizziness.
Another concern is the public health and the issue of e-cig use among teenagers. Some people claim that vaping might seem appealing to adolescents and it can serve as a gateway for smoking regular cigarettes, which would consequently lead to normalization of smoking.
It will not help you quit smoking
According to few studies, vaping will not help you quit smoking, unless you want to. It might even be counterproductive. On the other hand, as already mentioned, it can help you reduce the number of smoked cigarettes during the day.
The bottom line is – if you are not already a smoker, why start in the first place with either smoking or vaping. Even though vaping is considered a “healthier” alternative to smoking, not enough number of conclusive studies has been conducted about this subject. If you are a smoker, however, maybe you could consider vaping – after all, it might just help you cut down or quit smoking.
