ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES – OH YOU DIDN’T KNOW?
When I stop and reflect, as over the course of time that I’ve written many different vaping articles and have talked about them with co-workers, friends and family, is that there’s a large portion of people out there who still don’t know what they are and how they’re exactly used. There are even people out there that don’t even know they exist! Shocking, I know.
For the masses that are unfamiliar with e-cigarettes and the world of vaping in general, and for those who are even looking at stopping their harmful tobacco smoking cravings, let’s take a quick look at some of the basic facts. We’ll also dive into some headlining issues that surround this controversial but popular product.
What’s Are Electronic Cigarettes?
Main Answer: Many wholesale distribution companies and general online retailers describe it as a nicotine delivery device or system. Often times, if you take a good look, you’ll see from the outer appearance that the electronic cigarette can closely resemble its traditional cigarette counterpart.
How Long Have Electronic Cigarettes Been Around?
Good question. Depending upon who you ask on how they really define an electronic cigarette, you can go back to the mid-1960s. However, the more modern, yet earliest models surfaced around 10 or 11 years ago. However, they’ve only really exploded onto the US Market on their road to becoming popular since about 2009.
How Are They Different From Regular Cigarettes?
Vaporizers are very different from the traditional or analog cigarettes in many ways. Aside from their general make up and component structure, perhaps the most outstanding difference is that they don’t contain any tobacco and they’re battery operated. Also, most of them are reusable. When their used, they don’t omit any smoke. The smoke like substance you see being exhaled is simply a water like vapor, that has such a minimal odor and evaporates into the air within a few seconds. There’s also no tar and no ash.
How Do They Work?
For that answer, let’s quote Wikipedia, “In automatic models, when a user inhales through the device, air flow is detected by a sensor, which activates a heating element that vaporizes a flavoured liquid solution stored in the mouthpiece, which may contain nicotine.” In addition to the automatic vaping devices, there are also manual models such as mods, in which the user presses a button or holds down the button for a couple seconds to activate the heating element.
How Come There’s Controversy Surrounding Them?
It would take days to really dive into how they’ve become popular, even under controversy. Much of the controversy is partly due to the way they were initially marketed here in the U.S. and even in Europe as a “quit smoking” method. Many health officials are also concerned that even though the device contains no tobacco, it still delivers nicotine, which is addictive to the user. The e-cigarette uses e-liquids or cartridges that contain nicotine of various strengths. There are e-liquids and cartridges that are on the market that are completely nicotine free.
This is only the beginning of learning about them and there’s lots more information available. Just keep checking out our blog postings to learn more.
