In the past 10 years the amount of research into CBD oil benefits has grown substantially. The science is encouraging. Many feel that we are just at the tip of the iceberg in terms of the potential of cannabinoids. The list of the top five CBD benefits is based on a variety of studies. This list is not intended to be used to diagnose or treat any conditions.

CBD or hemp oil is a cannabinoid from the cannabis or hemp plant. It is one of 120 compounds found in the plant. While THC is probably the most well known cannabinoid because of the psychoactive effects, CBD is now getting much of the attention and for good reason. CBD is non-psychoactive, in other words it does not get you high. in fact it does not even activate the same receptors as THC. Rather THC is the compound from cannabis plants that are psychoactive. CBD does not have any euphoric or high feeling associated with it.

In the human body you will find the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is designed to utilize cannabinoids for variety of body functions. In other words, your body is designed to use cannabinoids. The human body does not view cannabinoids as a foreign substance. As the body of science continues to grow, we expect to learn more and more about the potential benefits of CBD oil. Here are five CBD oil benefits and the studies behind each.

CBD and Pain

Cannabis was used by doctors for pain relief since the 1850s. but that time doctors felt the Cannabis actually showed the best promise of any pain medication. There’s no doubt the prohibition of cannabis has delayed the research and it’s a shame to think of where we could be today without that prohibition. What that said, the most common reason people are using CBD today is pain relief.

Researchers believe that CBD hemp oil interacts which receptors in the brain and immune system. Specifically receptors that have anti-inflammatory and painkiller effects. A 2016 study at the University a Kentucky College of Pharmacy in Lexington showed that topically applied CBD reduce inflammation and arthritis pain.

A separate study published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine confirmed that CBD oil benefits include reducing pain and inflammation. Research also indicated that subjects were unlikely to develop a tolerance to the effects of CBD. As a result, there doesn’t appear to be any need to constantly increase the dose.

More research is ongoing, but so far it appears CBD oil benefits could offer new hope for people suffering with chronic pain.

Anxiety and Stress

In 2012 Brazilian researchers gather the results of a number of international studies regarding CBD. They found that there is a connection between CBD and reducing anxiety. In particular the researchers found that the CBD helped relieve social anxiety in particular.

It is hypothesized that when CBD activates the endocannabinoid system it sends signals to the adult hippocampus and reduces the behavioral and physical consequences of stress.

Well this research is relatively new, interestingly enough historians have found text from about 2000 BC talking about using CBD for anxiety. iI fact many of the earliest human civilizations used CBD for anxiety.

Note that this is a very different response than THC, which can actually increase anxiety. CBD is the yin to THC’s yang. That’s why some people describe using CBD as getting the benefits of the relaxation of the cannabis plant without the paranoia and anxiety.

Depression

Much in the same way that CBD may help with anxiety, the same effects may benefit depression. Pharmaceutical drugs designed to help with depression often do so by changing serotonin levels. Serotonin is a chemical that is believed to be a mood stabilizer. The endocannabinoid system is said to work similarly to the way the body uses serotonin.

Some scientists believe that CBD may be valuable as a fast-acting antidepressant. Many also believe that it might be especially useful for stress-related depression. Because stress related depression has shown to suppress the endocannabinoid system.

As with anxiety, many scientists believe that too much THC can worsen a depression. It is CBD oil benefits that could potentially help with depression.

Anti-inflammatory Benefits Of CBD

The anti-inflammatory benefits of CBD may be among the most promising aspects of this compound. Inflammation and autoimmune disease seems rampant in today’s society. The CBD activates the endocannabinoid system in multiple body organs. This has shown to reduce inflammation all over the body.

Sleeping Disorders

Sleeping disorders have become all too common in today’s fast paced society. The fact of the matter is the world is stressful and sometimes it’s hard just to turn our brains off and relax. Most often, we are hyper stimulated by all of the demands life throws at us. CBD oil benefits sleeping problems by acting on anxiety. And ideally having a calming effect.

The research on sleeping and CBD is a mixed bag overall. CBD can increase energy and cause you to be more awake. But at the same time helping ease anxiety can help get a more restful and complete sleep. Researchers suggest not taking CBD right before bedtime, but rather a few hours before bedtime. The potential benefit is reduce daytime sleepiness and a better night sleep.

Using CBD

There are a number of ways to use CBD oil. Some of those methods include:

  • Sublingual – placing a drop of CBD oil underneath the tongue for at least 90 seconds and allowing it to be absorbed.
  • Oral CBD – ingesting CBD capsules.
  • Topical – applying CBD oil on the skin in the affected area. It is recommended to use a CBD cream or to use a tincture with a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil.
  • Vaporize – studies have show that vaporizing may be the most effective way to maximize absorption. CBD oil can be vaporized in a device designed for oils. Also, CBD vape juice can be used with vape mods or e-cigs.

The amount of CBD in a tincture or vape juice varies. The higher the amount of CBD the stronger the impact. It may take some trial and error to find the CBD level that is right for you

Mig Vapor offers a line of tinctures and CBD vape juice options. In addition, they have devices that will vaporize CBD oils and vape juices. Hemp oil and CBD vape juice with a 500 mg or less strength can be vaped. For strengths over 500 mg, we recommend sublingual or topical application.

Final Note:

You have probably heard about CBD being used to treat seizures and other neurological disorders. Famously, Charlotte’s Web is a strain of cannabis that is primarily made up of CBD. Charlotte’s Web CBD oil benefits helped people reduce seizures when other medications could not. But treating seizures with CBD requires direct medical supervision. It is important to understand the doses required and often a spectrum of THC and CBD are required.

Do not attempt to self prescribe and treat seizures with CBD oil. Please talk to your doctor if you are interested in treating epilepsy or other neurological conditions with cannabinoids.
